With the clock ticking down on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s multi-million dollar Netflix contract, the Duchess of Sussex may have one last shot at keeping the deal alive.
The couple’s high-profile agreement with the streaming giant, inked in 2020 for a reported five years, is set to expire this September.
Now, as season two of With Love, Meghan nears release, reports suggest Netflix has no immediate plans to renew their deal.
But according to brand strategist Nick Ede there’s still a way forward, if Meghan plays her cards right.
“What a lot of studios do is something called a first-look deal,” Ede explained to Newsweek, referring to a model where a network gets early access to new ideas in exchange for exclusivity.
“It’s really important for her to get her brand across — and As Ever was the perfect vehicle for that.”
He added that while Meghan could pivot to other platforms like YouTube, currently the most-watched media platform globally, maintaining her relationship with Netflix would have significant strategic value.
“From an optics and success point of view, I suspect she would want to stay with Netflix,” Ede said.
“They’ve powered her and her husband in a massive way over the last five years.”
