Why Meghan Markle stayed behind as Prince Harry visits Angola

Prince Harry is spending his second day in Angola after landing in the Central African country on Tuesday for charity work close to his heart.

The Duke of Sussex, 40, is visiting landmine sites as part of his patronage of the HALO Trust, echoing the iconic humanitarian work of his late mother, Princess Diana.

But while Harry was seen smiling and relaxed during his solo trip, many royal watchers quickly noticed that Meghan Markle, 43, was not by his side.

While Meghan is likely caring for their two children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, back in Montecito, California, insiders say there’s another reason she stayed behind.

According to MailOnline, Harry prefers to keep his work with HALO Trust a solo mission.

“Halo is really his thing, it means so much to him to be patron and he just wants to keep his work with them to himself,” a source reportedly said.

Security concerns also played a role.

The same source added: “The duke won’t let his wife go to England over security concerns, so there was no chance he’d allow her to go to Angola to walk across landmines.”

Harry, who stepped back from royal life in 2020, is hoping his visit will boost donations from the Angolan government to help clear remaining landmines, a mission that continues decades after Diana’s famous 1997 visit.

Harry last walked a minefield in 2019 and is reportedly determined to honour his mother’s legacy in his own way, with or without Meghan by his side.
