Drake Bell is opening up about his experience during and after the Nickelodeon show Drake and Josh, with some surprising remarks.
The 39-year-old explained the injustices child stars face and the way the stars have been snubbed of residual income, which is a perk many other sitcom actors are used to.
On an installment of The Unplanned Podcast, the Home Improvement alum told hosts Matt and Abby Howard that the system for protecting young actors is flawed.
Bell explained that the glorified image of Hollywood in people’s minds is far from the truth, and that his time on the beloved channel has not been as financially rewarding as most people would think.
“That's far from the case, and especially, which is the bummer for most of us on Nickelodeon, we don't get residuals for our shows,” he stated.
The Amanda Show actor went on to explain that residuals were how actors made most of their income.
He disclosed that other comedy show actors, such as the cast of Seinfeld or Friends still get paid by streaming platforms.
“It's a lot of evil, corrupt people. That's the only thing, that is the answer,” Drake noted of the executives, when Matt wondered why they didn’t receive residuals.
The Found A Way singer unveiled that it was the corporations that really made the money that actors put in effort for.
No, the characters Drake and Josh are not brothers, but step-siblings in the show since Drake’s mother marries Josh’s father.
