New details emerge on King Charles, Queen Camillas Jersey scare

King Charles and Queen Camilla were rushed to safety during their visit to Jersey after reports of a potential sniper threat, last summer.

The royal couple, who were enjoying the Jersey Expo in St Helier, were swiftly escorted by their security team into a nearby hotel when the alert was raised.

But fresh details have now revealed that the threat was actually a false alarm, the result of a man on a roof trying to scare away birds.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Hafey, the senior officer in charge of the royal visit, confirmed the update to ITV News, explaining: "The main bit at that time is to get the King and Queen into an area where we know they’re 100% safe."

"The officers managing the firearms command stepped in and took control. It was a false alarm… my understanding is someone was on a roof trying to scare some birds."

Despite the scare cutting short Charles and Camilla’s tour of stalls, including a moment when they were about to try some Jersey ice cream, they quickly resumed engagements after the area was declared safe.

Attendees praised the professionalism of the royal security team, who acted swiftly and calmly.

This incident took place during the royal couple’s two-day tour of the Channel Islands in July 2023.
