Mike Tindalls down-to-earth proposal to Zara revealed

Zara Tindall was left laughing when husband Mike Tindall proposed in an unexpectedly casual way, while she was watching television, according to royal commentators.

During a special episode of Palace Confidential focused on royal fashion and personal moments, host Jo Elvin and guests Rebecca English and Claire Cisotti reflected on notable royal proposals, highlighting the rugby star’s low-key approach to asking for Zara’s hand in marriage.

Rebecca English, royal editor at the Daily Mail, shared that Mike and Zara had been living together in Cheltenham at the time, and he had always made it clear that a proposal was on the horizon, just not when.

“There wasn’t a grand gesture, no sunset, no flowers, no rainbows,” English said.

“He just walked into the house one day while she was watching TV, got down on one knee and proposed - wanting it to be a genuine surprise.”

Zara reportedly burst out laughing - a response English described as “laughter of delight” - before saying yes.

The couple married in July 2011 at Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh.

Their reception took place at the Palace of Holyroodhouse and is said to have included a vodka fountain.

The two are known for their shared sense of humour, something that surfaced again in a story Mike Tindall recounted earlier this year.
