Jenna Ortega, who plays the titular character of Wednesday Addams in the much-loved series Wednesday, is opening up about being shot to fame through the series, along with some insight into her thoughts on the family’s dynamics.
The 22-year-old skyrocketed to new heights for her portrayal of the beloved character and has noted that she was not expecting the outcome.
In a tell-all interview with BBC, the Hurry Up Tomorrow actress discussed the attention that the show got, while noting that no one is really ever ready or expectant of that sort of reception.
"I'm still very appreciative and grateful. We didn't know that anyone was going to watch the show. You do these things and you don't know what's to come, so it was very overwhelming,” she said.
The Beetlejuice Beetlejuice star also reflected on why she thinks the show resonates so much with younger audiences.
Jenna explained that although the Addams family-which has received more emphasis in the new season- is strange and unconventional, but still manages to be a cohesive unit.
“They shouldn't fit [together] but they do. And that's very relatable," the child star emphasises, before adding, "It's very typical for mother and daughter to butt heads."
The People’s Choice Award winner then noted that Morticia and Wednesday’s mother-daughter dynamic and struggles were relatable for both her teenage and current self.
Wednesday Season 2 will premiere on Netflix in two parts: Part 1 drops on August 6, 2025, and Part 2 follows on September 3, 2025.
