As America’s prestigious Emmy Awards for TV artists announced this year’s nominees, Apple TV+ series Severance Season 2 took the lead in nominations, including one for Adam Scott’s outstanding performance.

Scott plays the protagonist, Mark Scout, in the psychological thriller.

The show has nearly doubled its nominations since 2022, when it first received 14. This year, Severance is nominated for 27 recognitions.

The Emmy nominations were announced on the morning of Tuesday, July 15. Shortly after being nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Scott shared his reaction.

The actor described the morning as pretty gratifying.

“I try to keep myself severed, for lack of a better term,” Scott said, adding that he had been preparing himself for the possibility of not being nominated.

“… and being pleasantly surprised if anything goes in a positive direction,” he continued. “So, something like this is just pure delight.”

Severance is a science fiction psychological thriller set at Lumon Industries, a mysterious biotech company where a group of workers undergo a controversial medical procedure called “severance.” The process splits their consciousness into two, separating their work and personal identities, with no memory of the other side.

Scott also expressed joy over his co-stars being recognised.

“Seeing Britt [Lower], who so richly deserves it, and Tramell [Tillman], Zach [Cherry], John [Turturro], and Patricia [Arquette]… it just fills me with joy,” he said. “We all work so hard on the show, so it’s great to see everyone recognised like this.”
